Magazine Front Cover Analysis 3
Front cover
of the magazine GQ with Kanye West, a rapper, record producer, entrepreneur,
and fashion designer known worldwide also by holding the record for the most
Grammys won, tied with Jay Z with a total of 24. The masthead of the front
cover is the logo of the magazine, located at the top left corner behind the
main image. It follows the colour scheme conventions with about 3 colours,
black, white and grey. 2 different fonts used throughout the front cover with
sizes varying on the cover lines, not uniform. The main image is a mid-shot of Kanye
West centre of the front cover with no supporting images as he is the main
focus of the edition. Cover lines placed to the right and left of the front
cover and gives the reader the insight of other topics in the magazine and what
topics they are going to cover. The main cover line is in the usual place of a
small cover line but, it is easy to distinguish as it is a different colour and
references the main image. The front cover follows the rule of thirds but could
improve in that as the text overlaps with the main image. The main image could
be a bit farther away as in the way it would provide a better a cleaner look to
the front cover with no text over it. The primary audience of the magazine are
young male between the age of 18 to 25 years old. It is targeted to them because
the features inside are of which stereotypical male would like. Also,
another thing the magazine has in common with the targeted audience's interests
us: Women Models. Men of the age of 18-25 are mostly very interested in the
opposite sex, especially if they are half naked. The magazine appeals to this
kind of interest in men by having a very attractive, sexy and glamorous model
on the front with nothing but underwear on and sitting on a diving board near a
pool.
