Website Analysis 1

GQ Magazine

Website of the magazine GQ has a colour scheme of 4 colours, this being white for the background, which is the main colour, black for the text of topics and stories throughout the website, blue for the buttons to order a print of the magazine, this colour is used as it will stand out on the website encouraging sales, the final main colour is a fluorescent yellow line at the top of the page. The colour scheme does not include those form the stories and that is why it only has 4 as the main colours. At the left top of the website main page, they have the logo of the magazine in bold and big font size. Opposite to that they have a link to other countries versions of the website for a different public that speaks other languages or wants to see stories from other countries as each website has some national stories along with the international ones. To the right of that a button to subscribe to their service, and a direct link to different topics of they offer and links to their social media pages. Underneath that they have the topics of the website. Following that they have top stories with different topics. Following the page down they have different stories with different layouts, some with big images and some with smaller ones, maybe indicating the importance of the story. What this magazine does different and well is incorporating ads with their stories on the main page in a way that it’s not easily noticeable that it’s an ad. When you click on a story the page will have links to other stories, this is a way of keeping you reading on the website recommending more and more stories related to what you are reading. At the bottom of the main page, they have links to their social media. This is a way of creating an active audience as the readers can interact on their social pages with other readers or writers. They are quite active on their social media and that is shown by the number of followers they have. With over half a million on Facebook, more than 300k on twitter and more that 400k subs on YouTube with their videos reaching hundreds of thousands of views and some hit millions of views. I could argue that GQ is a magazine that targets the more general public, therefore the working to middle class, and that is shown by the price of the subscription, being quite low, and content available that are available for the masses.
